As a photographer in the Pacific Northwest, I understand that the weather can be unpredictable, and when it comes to planning a photo shoot, a sudden downpour can throw a wrench into our carefully laid plans. But don’t worry! Here’s a guide on what we can do if the forecast calls for rain the day of your photo shoot.
- Wait for the 24 hour forecast:
First and foremost, I always recommend waiting until the 24-hour forecast is available. This allows us to time the photo shoot accordingly, ensuring we have the latest and most accurate information to make an informed decision. Sometimes it will rain all morning, and the sky will open up to a gorgeous sunset in the afternoon. Timing is everything! - 2. The Clear Umbrella Shoot:
In the event that it ends up being rainy all day, there are creative solutions we can explore. Opting for a rainy day shoot with clear umbrellas can add a unique and enchanting touch to your photos. The raindrops can create a magical atmosphere, capturing the beauty of the PNW in the most PNW way (we know the rain all too well). If you don’t like the clear umbrella vibe and are comfortable embracing the Portland weather and running around in the rain, I’m so down for a rainy day shoot! - Book a studio: For those seeking a more controlled environment, we can book a local studio at an additional cost. Portland, Vancouver and Salem all have some beautiful studio locations that we can rent by the hour. This option provides shelter from the rain while maintaining a clean and polished look for your photos. It’s a great alternative for clients who want to avoid the rain at all costs!
- Reschedule: Lastly, if the weather proves to be uncooperative, rescheduling is always an option. While we can’t control Mother Nature, we can plan for a better day and hope for clearer skies. Your comfort and satisfaction are my top priorities, and I’m more than willing to work with you to find the perfect day for your shoot. Reschedules due to inclement weather will not require a rescheduling fee!
Weather challenges are just part of life here in the PNW. But they can be turned into unique and beautiful opportunities. With careful planning, creative solutions, and flexibility, we can ensure that your photo shoot remains a special and memorable experience, rain or shine.
